I imagine that 60 years ago this was an amazing day not just for my Grandfather (pictured) but for my Dad and Grandmother as well. My Grandfather served for the duration both in Europe and in the Pacific and was gone for quite a few years. I never got to meet him as he died a couple months before I was born but I have done a lot of reading about his unit and asked many a question about his life.
